About The Position

Occupational Therapist develops and provides occupational therapy services to referred patients and serves as a patient advocate in the Therapy Department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a bachelor's level program in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed by the state of practice in Occupational Therapy.
  • Certified in AHA BLS.
  • Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility, or obtain within thirty 90 days.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year working with the acute adult population preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and develop treatment plans for assigned patients.
  • Evaluate patients within 72 hours of physician referral.
  • Supervise rehabilitation technicians and COTAs in direct patient care and patient-related activities.
  • Treat patients according to treatment plans approved by the attending physician.
  • Provide evidence-based treatments and monitor progress to all patients on OT caseload.
  • Communicate with the Director of Rehabilitation, physicians, and other team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
  • Participate as necessary in patient care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Document treatment and outcomes on a daily basis according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Complete all required patient care documentation to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines in a timely manner.
  • Perform department audits to ensure quality patient care.
  • Participate in In-Service Training Programs with staff to achieve a high standard of care by all staff.
  • Record daily treatments and charges with respect to department policy.
  • Establish and instruct caregivers and patients in patient-specific maintenance programs, DME, and safety.
  • Participate in discharge planning and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Secure necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for patients to facilitate independence.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for affiliating Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant schools.
  • Communicate and coordinate clinical services department functions with other departments to achieve cohesion and effectiveness.
  • Communicate with the Director of Rehabilitation regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  • Comply with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Occupational Therapy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Occupational Therapy equipment utilized in different procedures, for example, ultrasound, e-stim, etc.
  • Utilize resources appropriately and use/maintain equipment to prolong working life.
  • Adhere to department productivity standards.
  • Communicate with COTAs daily regarding patient goals, outcomes, and plan of care.
  • Communicate with the physician regarding patient status (i.e., weight-bearing) and activity level.
  • Provide quality customer service to patients, family members, and staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the medically complex patient and provide appropriate interventions based on the diagnosis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
