About The Position

The Occupational Therapist evaluates patients and plans and administers occupational therapy treatments intended to help restore body functions compromised by a health condition. The therapist provides care in accordance with physician orders and evaluates and interprets patient assessments and test results. The position is part time, scheduled three days per week for 24 hours per week, in the Physical Therapy Department. The Occupational Therapist is responsible to the therapy supervisor and/or director of rehabilitation services and has regular contact with physicians, therapists, nurses, and patients.

The role includes supporting continuity of care after discharge through home exercise programs, patient instruction, assistive equipment recommendations or provision, and follow-up program recommendations. It also includes maintaining accurate clinical and administrative records, protecting patient confidentiality, supervising occupational therapy assistants, and complying with applicable federal and state codes and regulations.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program.
• Current, unrestricted Louisiana State Occupational Therapy License.
• CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
• Strong customer and patient skills.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices.
• Knowledge of electronic health records.
• Excellent organizational skills and effective time management and multitasking abilities.
• Able to meet the listed physical requirements, including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting with patient transfers and mobility, and working in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatment plans in accordance with physician orders, based on assessment and interpretation of evaluations and test results.
• Support continuation of therapeutic plans after discharge by designing home exercise programs, instructing patients, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, and recommending follow-up programs.
• Promptly and thoroughly document and maintain clinical and administrative records of patient limitations, interventions, treatments, responses, progress, and discharge summaries.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in records and treatment sessions.
• Complete daily notes and charges accurately and on time.
• Supervise and direct occupational therapy assistants in patient care and related activities.
• Comply with federal and state codes and regulations.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
