About The Position

A First Steps Occupational Therapist provides evaluations and therapy in various settings, assessing gross motor, fine motor, oral motor, perceptual motor, and sensory integration functioning in children. The therapist develops treatment plans and outcomes aligned with the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), utilizing therapeutic modalities to enhance skills. Responsibilities include communicating progress to staff and families, providing parent training, and recommending home programming.

Requirements

Registered Occupational Therapist in the State of Indiana.
Currently registered/licensed with the Health Professions Bureau of Indiana.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to drive to and from each visit, therapy session, or Individual Family Service Plan site.
Reliable form of transportation.
Enrolled in the state of Indiana as a First Steps provider.
Ability to lift a child three years of age and under, weighing up to 50 pounds, with adaptive equipment.
Communicate with other appropriate staff, supervisor, and agency personnel.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with children and families.
Provide developmental outcomes for each child and demonstrate activities and strategies to their families and/or caregivers.
Ability to work independently and use sound judgment.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience working with the pediatric population.
College practicum work in developing appropriate activities and strategies for infants and toddlers is appropriate if there is no experience.
Be creative in exploring new and innovative ideas.

Responsibilities

Provide evaluations and therapy for children in various settings.
Assess gross motor, fine motor, oral motor, perceptual motor, and sensory integration functioning.
Develop treatment plans and outcomes for the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Utilize therapeutic modalities and procedures to maintain and increase skills.
Communicate evaluation results, treatment plans, and progress to staff and families.
Provide parent training and suggest home programming.
Determine and provide necessary assistive technology, including specialized equipment for positioning and play.
Maintain daily progress notes, quarterly reports, and records of evaluations and home visits.
Complete an exit skills summary for children transitioning to the school system.
Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and parent group meetings.
Collaborate with team members in writing annual IFSPs.
Attend workshops and conferences to enhance professional effectiveness and meet continuing education requirements.
Serve as a resource for information on various developmental areas and skills.
Ensure the health and safety of children served.
Serve as a role model and advocate for children served.
Participate in required training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Plan instructional activities for clients and assist families in accessing community activities.
Furnish required monthly statistics.
Respect the confidentiality and cultural diversity of children and families.
Potentially serve on an agency committee.
