About The Position

Lifemark is seeking a passionate Occupational Therapist to join their Vocational Services team in Edmonton, AB. This role focuses on helping diverse and barriered populations, including individuals with disabilities, mental health and addiction challenges, newcomers, youth, veterans, Indigenous peoples, and those with limited education or work experience, to successfully enter and remain in the workforce. The Occupational Therapist will play a vital role in delivering care within a progressive and collaborative atmosphere, contributing to the health and well-being of clients through a holistic approach. The position is full-time and permanent, located at the Lifemark Mira clinic in Edmonton, with some local travel required. Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current Occupational Therapy standards, modalities and scope of practice; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists in your province.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist is preferred.
  • Newly Licensed Graduates are accepted.
  • Clinical experience is an asset in areas such as brain injury/neurological rehabilitation, mental health, musculoskeletal/orthopedic injury, home safety, ergonomics and/or return to work.
  • Passion for your profession and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Superior interpersonal relations, communication, problem-solving, time management, computer and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Bilingualism - French and English are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a safe, timely, and sustainable return to work for employees after injury, illness, or disability by analyzing the intersection of the worker's functional abilities and the job's demands.
  • Evaluate the worker's physical, cognitive, and psychological functions, as well as job demands and workplace environment.
  • Develop tailored plans to help workers return to their pre-injury roles or alternative work.
  • Design personalised programs to enhance job readiness, promote physical health and increase the chances of long-term employment success.
  • Perform clinical evaluations, provide exercises, functional tasks, and cognitive strategies (e.g., pacing, energy conservation) to address injury-related deficits.
  • Teach techniques like mindfulness, relaxation, and sleep hygiene to manage pain, fatigue, and emotional distress.
  • Provide education to the client and employer about the recovery process, the benefits of staying connected to work, and their roles in the plan.
  • Provide tailored support through work simulation activities and work conditioning programs.
  • Record assessment and treatment interventions in the client's chart.
  • Excel in a collaborative, inter-disciplinary team environment.
  • Exhibit sound professional judgment.
