About The Position

The Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist will enable disabled students to use their bodies more adequately and gain optimal benefit from the educational program. This role involves screening, evaluating, and providing direct and indirect services to students, as well as consulting with teachers, other professionals, and community agencies. The position also includes selecting and evaluating materials for motor skills, maintaining records, participating in IEP meetings, facilitating communication between home and school, assisting with physician orders, and maintaining equipment inventory.

Requirements

  • Certification as prescribed by the State Department of Education
  • Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners for Occupational Therapy or State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners

Responsibilities

  • Screen and evaluate students for occupational therapy/physical therapy
  • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team when evaluating a student
  • Provide direct and indirect services to students according to established procedures
  • Provide consultant service to teachers, other professional personnel, and community Agencies
  • Review, select, and evaluate materials and activities for Special Education children involved in motor skills
  • Maintain appropriate records
  • Participate as a team member in the student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program)
  • Facilitate communication between the home and the school as it relates to occupational therapy/physical therapy issues that would impact the child’s functioning in the educational setting
  • Assist in the securing of yearly physician orders for eligible students
  • Maintain inventory of occupational therapy/physical therapy equipment
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education
