About The Position

This role involves the evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of developmental, sensory processing, musculoskeletal, and neurological diagnoses/conditions. The occupational therapist or COTA will provide education and preventative care to patients, families, hospital associates, and the community. This position serves as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, nursing, and Social Services, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery, education, and coordination of occupational therapy services. The primary caseload will be in outpatient pediatrics.

Requirements

Graduation from an Occupational Therapy Program approved and accredited by AOTA, Standards for Accreditation of Education Programs for Occupational Therapists as most recently published.
Continuing education courses pertinent to clinical practice and professional responsibilities, or as requested by Department Director.
Active participation in the AP/OTA, on the local, State, and national levels, as deemed necessary by department director.
Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree.
Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of Indiana.
Certification in CPR required.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and treat patients with developmental, sensory processing, musculoskeletal, and neurological diagnoses/conditions, tailoring treatment to the individual patient.
Provide education and preventative care to patients, families, hospital associates, and the community.
Act as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, nursing, and Social Services.
Deliver effective and efficient occupational therapy services, education, and coordination.
Use clinical skills to care for patients of all ages and diagnoses, providing high-quality patient treatment including evaluation, treatment planning and implementation, patient/family education, safety procedures, and communication.
Operate equipment related to patient care, such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation units, mechanical traction, exercise equipment, wound care equipment, and hospital beds.
Direct patients in the care and use of assistive devices, braces, orthotics, prosthetics, exercise equipment, and orthopedic devices.
Direct and aid patients in mobility and strengthening exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and activities of daily living training, and functional training.
Adapt conventional physiotherapeutic techniques for patients who cannot comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a therapeutic exercise regimen.
Document patient care according to HFAP requirements and departmental policy.
Participate in continuous quality improvement processes related to patient care, including evaluation and peer review.
Display excellent guest relations with all patients, customers, and co-associates, and exhibit excellent telephone etiquette.
Communicate effectively with intra- and interdepartmental associates regarding patient care and customer relations.
Support the hospital's mission, value statement, strategic plan, vision, and department service statement and philosophy.
Direct and supervise the activities of aides, students, and volunteers.
Assist with departmental functions as directed by the Director of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy.
Participate in providing educational material to departmental staff on a rotating basis.
Engage in continuing self-education in areas of interest and those pertinent to the diagnoses treated in the clinic.
