About The Position

Performs direct patient care activities and maintenance/expansion of hand clinic programs. Assesses patients and establishes appropriate treatment plan according to diagnosis based upon professional standards. Provides appropriate treatment of patients using specific modalities and treatment techniques. Accurately documents treatments and care of patients and communicates with other team members. Participates in individual and department continuous improvement and education activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in physical therapy or occupational therapy from an accredited university in the USA
  • 2+ years of experience as an OT or PT.
  • Proven record of continuing education in related topics.
  • PT or OT Licensure in State of California or National Certification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Certified Hand Therapist designation or 4 years of experience working in Hand Therapy Clinic with Certified Hand Therapists.
  • Good physical condition, which requires moderate lifting of equipment and patients.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and varying locations as assigned
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the hospital and departments

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents an initial evaluation, interprets data to identify problems, and determines functional limitations prior to intervention
  • Establishes functional, measurable goals with appropriate timelines, and includes the patient and/or caregiver in the goal setting
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of treatment at various stages and makes adjustments to achieve maximum benefit or discharges when treatment no longer needed
  • Ensures patient education, proper fit and use for assistive devices as necessary.
  • Supervises PTA, PSM Aide, students and volunteers as the clinical schedule dictates
  • Fabricate and adjust static and dynamic splints, including but not limited to carpometacarpal, cock-up, resting, and flexion and extension dynamic splints.
  • Assess post-surgical and post-traumatic injuries and implement treatment protocols.
  • Perform ergonomic evaluations, write up findings, recommend appropriate equipment and do appropriate patient education
  • Establish and perform work simulation activities and functional capacity evaluations.
  • Participates in team and hospital wide meetings, committees and initiatives as assigned
  • Assists with department finances with accurate daily billing practices, actively daily maintenance of patient care schedule.
