About The Position

The Occupational Health & Safety Associate will identify hazardous workplace conditions and take preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, remove hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Take effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational health and safety standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participate in Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) style inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses. Plan and conduct surveillance and management self-assessments of industrial and construction processes. Perform construction, maintenance, and facility safety inspections as assigned. Attend pre-bid/pre-construction meetings. Review/approve contractor safety documentation. Conduct Pre-Hazard Analysis walk downs of proposed construction projects. Involve Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when necessary. Conduct hazard briefings. Participate in readiness verifications, evaluation of facilities/operations, and prepares written reports documenting findings and/or recommendations. Review applicable regulations and maintain written work procedures to ensure compliance. Review work control documents to ensure hazards are identified and mitigating controls. Develop, implement, and maintain industrial safety programs. Conduct hazard assessments of work processes (i.e., construction, manufacturing, industrial, traffic, maintenance, laboratory). Conduct accident investigations involving personnel/vehicle/property events. Participate in worker involvement including work planning, hazard identification, and implementation of mitigating controls.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree OR Master's degree OR PhD degree
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements: Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative.
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Safety, Engineering or another related scientific discipline
3+ years’ experience in Industrial Safety or a field related to Industrial Safety
Experience with safety participation with construction safety, and industrial safety processes for the identification of potential hazards
Knowledge of OSHA and Department of Energy (DOE) safety & health regulations
Knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) requirements
OSHA 510/500 courses
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certifications
