About The Position

This position is part of the Safety, Health and Environmental team at the BMC site. This position focuses on workplace safety. The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) works closely with both the site leadership team and employees on medical and associated programs. The OHN will also provide the needed care for INEOS employees on workplace related injuries and illnesses. This position contributes significantly in the safety and health of employees and supports advancements in medical testing and procedures within the local organization. Working closely with INEOS O&P management, the OHN will strive to ensure that all health and safety standards are met in an effort to safeguard the health and well-being of employees. The incumbent should be experienced in occupational health. They should also be adept in medical & document retention policies, and be current on medical, safety and health regulations such as OSHA, Texas Department of Health, CDC, HIPAA, FMLA and DOT.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years’ experience as a registered nurse in the field of occupational health
  • Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Proficient in medical databases
  • Knowledgeable of workplace hazards and Safety Health & Environmental procedures.
  • Adept in medical & document retention policies, and medical/safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, FMLA, DOT, etc.).
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Team player that can work well with others and participate in INEOS asset care programs as requested.
  • Flexible and self-starter
  • Dependable and detail oriented
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and other medical professionals

Nice To Haves

  • American Board for Occupational Health Nurses certification preferred
  • Graduate level education in Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) is a plus.
  • Develop medical articles for the site monthly newsletter and coordinate health initiatives for the site such as weight loss competition

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Safety Leadership through the promotion of the INEOS 20 Safety Principles.
  • Work under the medical direction of the designated licensed site Medical Director.
  • Perform medical tests (i.e., pulmonary function, phlebotomy, cardiograms, audiograms, drug testing, calibration of equipment, and maintaining logs).
  • Evaluate laboratory results for medical clearance with Medical Director approval for areas requiring medical surveillance programs.
  • Screen new and prospective employees to ensure they are capable of performing the duties required by their positions. This may include a physical examination, vision test, hearing test, and drug and alcohol screening.
  • Assess and administer care for injuries and emergencies as needed.
  • Handle all Return-to-Work releases, injuries and illnesses in an appropriate manner.
  • Counsel employees on their current medical condition with regards to the employee’s job or work requirements.
  • Advising on disease prevention programs, such as smoking cessation, exercise, and healthy eating programs
  • Provide clinical care for employees including work-related and non-work related injuries and illnesses.
  • Dispense medical supplies as appropriate and maintain medical documentation.
  • Administer vaccine shots such as Flu and Hepatitis.
  • Work with Human Resources and asset managers to manage workers’ compensation and short term disability cases.
  • Responsible for training and sharing feedback on medical responses to site ECAs, EMTs and EMS.
  • Manage after hours injuries and return to work unless responsibility has been delegated to other site staff and/or contractor.
  • Ensure all required annual physical exams for the employees are completed on time under the guidance of Medical Director
  • Provide CPR/AED classes as needed.
  • Participate in cross-site medical care program reviews and development. This may require travel.
  • Educating the workforce on issues of health promotion, illness and injury prevention, and the protection of individuals from occupational and environmental hazards.
  • Ensure medical procedures and records meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Suggest changes in procedures or develop other ways to make the workplace safer.
  • Accept after-hours on-call duties for injury care under the direction of the site Medical Director.
  • Assist with the medical investigation of circumstances surrounding injury or illness.
  • Coordinate the Company’s medical information response necessary for workers’ compensation and medical disability claims.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper for other health care services, including rehabilitation and disability matters.
