About The Position

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical, mental, and social well-being of manufacturing and administrative employees across multiple company locations. This role focuses on preventing and treating work-related injuries and illnesses, supporting employee wellness initiatives and programs, managing occupational and personal medical leave programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment. The OHN partners closely with Human Resources, Safety, operational leadership, and external medical providers to support employee health initiatives, reduce workplace risk, and ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations. This position supports facilities located in Georgia, Florida, and Canada.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational health, manufacturing, industrial, or emergency care settings
  • CPR certification
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and other occupational health regulations
  • Experience in case management and worker’s compensation claims management
  • Excellent clinical, emergency, and assessment skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations

Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to employees injured or ill at work
  • Manage all aspects of worker’s compensation cases for all worksites and coordinate with insurance providers as necessary
  • Assist with the return-to-work process, including assessing fitness for duty and collaborating with management to ensure accommodations for injured workers
  • Manage personal medical illnesses/injuries and coordinates all aspects of FMLA, short term disability, long term disability, and ADA cases
  • Analyze occupational injury and illness trends and partners with leadership to support proactive risk reduction initiatives
  • Coordinate OSHA-required medical surveillance programs including audiometric testing, respiratory fit testing, pulmonary function testing, vision screening, and immunization programs
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee medical records in accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy regulations
  • Maintain medical clinic supply inventory, replenishes when necessary
  • Perform monthly AED inspections
  • Maintain OSHA 300 and 300A logs in conjunction with the Safety team
  • Enforce GIW’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and administers drug screens, makes referrals to EAP, and ensures employees are working safely according to the policies and procedures
  • Provide individualized employee health education, coaching, and support
  • Deliver company-wide occupational health and wellness training programs
  • Coordinate and manage CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP), and First Aid certification programs
  • Develop and support employee wellness engagement initiatives focused on overall well-being
  • Coordinate wellness-related events including health fairs, blood drives, flu vaccine clinics, and preventive health screenings
  • Serve as a resource regarding company health benefits and wellness resources
  • Partner closely with HR, Safety, and operational leadership to support a safe and healthy workplace culture
  • Serve as a health resource and advisor to employees and leadership, provides support and referrals when necessary
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and supports continuous improvement initiatives related to employee health and safety
  • Ensure compliance with GIW’s company policies and local, state, and federal occupational health and safety laws and regulations
  • Assist in the development of emergency response plans, including handling workplace accidents, natural disasters, and public health emergencies
  • Participate in drills and training programs for emergency response
  • Support workplace incident investigations involving employee injuries or medical events
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs designed to enhance employee well-being and productivity
  • Manage GIW’s wellness program and coordinates annual health screenings, communicates deadlines, and tracks employee engagement
  • Coordinate periodic events such as blood drives, health fairs, on-site mammogram bus, flu vaccine clinics, etc.
  • Support mental health initiatives by providing Employee Assistance Program resources, counseling, and referrals when necessary
