About The Position

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive occupational health services to employees in accordance with professional nursing standards, applicable regulations, and company policies. This role supports employee health and wellness through fitness-for-work evaluations, injury and illness management, emergency response, health promotion initiatives, and occupational health program administration.

Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Nursing required
Current unrestricted nursing registration, or eligibility for registration, with the applicable provincial or territorial regulatory body.
Must maintain good standing with all required nursing licensing organizations.
Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in occupational health, emergency nursing, primary care, or industrial health settings.
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of occupational health regulations, disability management, and workers’ compensation processes.
Experience managing confidential medical information and health records.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and employee education skills.
Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
Strong organizational, case management, and administrative capabilities.
Commitment to employee health, wellness, and workplace safety.

Nice To Haves

Advanced Nursing Degree or Nurse Practitioner designation considered an asset.
Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN(C)).
Audiometry and Spirometry Certification.
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification.
Physical Health Assessment training or certification.

Responsibilities

Provide occupational health services within the scope of nursing practice and licensing requirements, ensuring compliance with professional standards and company policies.
Conduct fitness-for-work assessments, including safety-sensitive and executive occupational evaluations, to determine employees’ ability to safely perform job duties.
Gather and evaluate employee health information through occupational health histories, physical assessments, and clinical screenings (e.g., HbA1c testing).
Interpret clinical findings and test results, coordinate follow-up assessments, facilitate referrals for additional investigation, and communicate outcomes as appropriate.
Maintain accurate, confidential employee health records while ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.
Perform occupational evaluations in accordance with organizational occupational health programs and regulatory requirements.
Support the day-to-day administration of the health center, including scheduling examinations, managing medical inventories, tracking equipment, and ordering supplies.
Assist with disability case management by collaborating with third-party disability providers and Disability Case Management Advisors to support employees experiencing illness or injury.
Coordinate and manage workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work processes.
Provide health education and guidance related to illness and injury prevention, wellness initiatives, and community health resources.
Coordinate travel health assessments and related medical requirements for employees traveling on company business.
Support alcohol and drug program case management and monitoring activities.
Deliver emergency medical treatment and first aid for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
Collaborate with operational leaders and management teams to address occupational health concerns and support a healthy workplace.
Develop, implement, and deliver occupational health and wellness programs aimed at promoting employee well-being.
Support Occupational Health components of the Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) and other corporate health, safety, and compliance initiatives.
