About The Position

This position is responsible for performing regulatory testing, injury/illness care, and wellness education for employees within the nursing scope of practice, adhering to Client Standards, policies, procedures, and treatment care guidelines. The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, manages workers’ compensation claims, facilitates the Modified Duty/Return to Work program, and assists with other occupational and environmental health services. The role involves providing rapid first aid, coordinating care with the Injury Care program, managing minor medical issues, and implementing evidence-based practice and health promotion. Key responsibilities include case management of work-related incidents, supporting injury prevention, assisting with various employee health assessments, and maintaining communication with medical directors and supervisors. The nurse will also act as a liaison to the Employee Assistance Program, support wellness initiatives, maintain medical records, and conduct or support medical surveillance exams. Additionally, the role involves administering drug testing, collaborating on health care administration, participating in emergency response, managing travel medicine, maintaining OSHA logs, ordering supplies, and assisting with general clinic operations. Over-the-counter medications may be provided as agreed upon and allowed by state regulations. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid RN license in the state of California.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Proficient in basic office software applications
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

  • NIOSH, CAOHC DOT Drug, and Alcohol testing Certification in Occupational Health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rapid first aid and medical care for employees, as needed, and for emergencies (within the RN’s scope of practice) during designated on-site hours
  • Coordinate care with WorkCare’s Injury Care program and utilize physician escalation services, as needed
  • Provide episodic care for minor medical issues, medical consultations, and recommendations according to treatment care guidelines set forth and in collaboration with the WorkCare Consulting Medical Director and policies/procedures
  • Provide evidence-based practice and health promotion
  • Manage Return to Work Program
  • Case management of all work-related incidents
  • Participate in or administer Workers’ Compensation claims and program
  • Support injury prevention through education and ergonomic evaluations
  • Assist with new-hire exams, return-to-work assessments, fitness for duty exams and transitional work plans prior to the employee returning to work, as needed and in line with the scope of practice and as supported by the WorkCare Consulting Medical Director (CMD).
  • Maintain frequent communication with the CMD and WorkCare supervisor regarding all clinic issues and Customer requests
  • Act as Liaison to Employee Assistance Program, according to Customer protocols
  • Support health fairs and other wellness initiatives such as vaccination clinics, encouraging healthy lifestyles by educating employees on general health and fitness and other designated wellness topics, vaccination clinics, wellness interventions (biometrics, blood pressure checks, etc.)
  • Facilitate the use of available Customer resources such as fitness centers and health risk appraisals
  • Maintain medical records, paper and electronic, as appropriate
  • Maintain and distribute clinic utilization reports
  • Conduct or support Medical Surveillance exams such as audiograms, vision tests, pulmonary function, respirator fit testing, and DOT testing requirements, as needed and feasible with available or procured equipment, in line with the scope of practice and as supported by the CMD
  • Provide post-accident, pre-employment, for-cause, and random drug testing in line with the scope of practice and as supported by the CMD or Medical Review Officer
  • Perform health care administration work such as developing protocols and policies with the CMD and Customer stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the CMD to support clinical issues and Customer requests
  • Contribute insight to incident reports and tracking of injury and clinic utilization data
  • Lead or participate in emergency response team activities, drills, and training
  • Participate in safety, health, and wellness meetings as requested
  • Manage travel medicine programs, as appropriate for the population
  • Maintain data, OSHA 300 forms and the data entry process supported by clinic software or electronic records management systems
  • Order and maintain supplies to ensure that the clinic is appropriately stocked
  • Participate in the general flow of clinic operations (answering phones, checking mail, maintaining medical records, filing, copying charts, traffic control) as needed and in collaboration with current staff
  • Provide over-the-counter medications as agreed upon with Customer and as allowed per state licensure and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned or those duties that may be required as management deems necessary.
