About The Position
At NorthBay Healthcare, the obstetrical technician (OBT) is responsible and accountable for scrubbing for all OB surgeries in Labor & Delivery. In the absence of the unit clerk, the OBT also performs unit clerk functions to include general clerical and reception duties.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Surgical Technician Certification or documented competency with 6 months experience required.
- Current AHA or equivalent CPR Certification required.
- Previous experience as an operating room/obstetrical technician required.
- Must have knowledge of the basic concepts necessary for the performance of the duties expected of the operating room technician.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, be able to transcribe orders and perform computer order entry.
Nice To Haves
- Prior unit clerk/secretarial experience with medical terminology preferred.
- Prior experience with the delivery process and newborns preferred.
Responsibilities
- Utilize sterile technique to surgically assist physicians with such procedures as c/sections and tubal ligations.
- Function effectively during obstetrical emergencies.
- Prepare the surgical and delivery rooms and for assisting with patient care duties as assigned.
- Works in collaboration with the entire healthcare team to provide each patient and family member excellent customer service.
