About The Position

The Obstetric Technician I assists medical and nursing staff during labor and delivery procedures and provides direct care to mothers and newborns as directed by a registered nurse. The role ensures labor and delivery rooms are clean, sterile, stocked, and ready for use, including sterilizing surgical instruments. The technician may assist during deliveries and caesarean sections, process specimens, and provide compassionate support to patients and families while following applicable health care and safety protocols. The position is in the Family Birth Place. Daily work times are 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., on the night shift, with 48 scheduled hours bi-weekly.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Three months of job-related experience and/or training.
BLS certification, Canadian equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in surgical technology.
One year of experience in a medical setting.

Responsibilities

Provides care and support to mothers and newborns as directed by the RN.
Ensures delivery and operating rooms are clean, sterile, and stocked prior to deliveries, including sterilizing surgical instruments.
Provides delivery assistance under the direction of the RN, which may include coaching the mother with breathing and pushing.
May process, label, and send specimens to the lab.
Sets up, scrubs, and supports team members during deliveries and caesarean sections.
Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
Ensures compliance with health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous-waste, and other policies and protocols.
Performs other related duties as required and directed.
