The Observation Monitoring Technician maintains close observation of video monitored patients at a central monitoring station, providing continuous surveillance through a camera system or constant roving on the patient care unit. This role involves observing and interpreting risky patient behaviors, communicating with the patient's care team, and documenting in the electronic medical record. At times, the technician provides continuous, direct, one-to-one patient observation for patients of all ages and oversees patient/staff communications to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Technology-related experience.
  • Ability to work with multiple interruptions and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to understand and use basic medical terminology.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association within 30 Days

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of Technical Partner or Patient Observation Assistant training/orientation.
  • Successful completion of Crisis Management Course.

Responsibilities

  • Admits patients to the monitoring system; selects proper profiles, protocols, and identification formats.
  • Checks for signature on the Consent to Treat form, sets up equipment, conducts quality control checks, and takes care of equipment care and cleaning.
  • Observes video of patients (in real-time) and calls appropriate staff members if an issue arises with a patient that requires immediate staff response.
  • Prepares a list of staff contact names and phone numbers and pre-programs phone numbers for direct dial access.
  • Maintains records of each patient’s behavior, patient response to redirection, and frequency of redirection.
  • Provides continuous direct one-to-one patient observation.
  • Assists in completing direct patient care tasks.
