About The Position

The Vehicle Powertrain Systems Engineering organization is seeking a Supervisor to lead the OBD Core Calibration section, supporting gasoline, hybrid, and battery electric applications. This is a people-leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the section, mentoring a team of OBD monitor experts and engineers, leading cross-functional OBD projects, and overseeing the administrative functions that keep the team running smoothly. As Supervisor of the OBD Core Calibration section within Vehicle Powertrain Systems Engineering, you'll manage a talented team of engineers and OBD monitor experts delivering production-ready calibrations across gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and battery electric platforms. You'll drive day-to-day operations, mentor engineering talent, lead high-impact cross-functional projects, and help ensure Ford's powertrains meet the toughest regulatory standards with best-in-industry quality — all while shaping the next generation of onboard diagnostics for a rapidly evolving industry. The OBD Core section operates in a collaborative team environment to deliver production-ready powertrain calibrations on time, meet global regulatory requirements, and achieve best-in-industry quality. As Supervisor, you'll unite engineers responsible for hardware, software, calibration, data analysis, tool/script development, calibration sign-off, warranty analysis, and field issue resolution for OBD features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (BSME, BSEE, BSAE, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering)
  • 8+ years of experience in Powertrain or OBD Calibration, including program delivery through launch and quality feedback
  • Strong interest in ICE, HEV, Diesel, and BEV technologies
  • Proven ability to lead and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors, including strong interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills
  • Excellent data analysis capabilities, including statistical knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to new or evolving requirements
  • Proficiency with calibration tools, including ATI
  • Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills to drive resolution of complex issues
  • Working knowledge of combustion engine operation and basic vehicle control systems
  • Understanding of worldwide OBD regulatory requirements
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for development testing as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering (MSME, MSEE, MSAE, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering)
  • 10+ years in OBD calibration, including program delivery through launch and in-use quality response
  • Experience analyzing quality and warranty data to identify root cause and implement fixes for field issues
  • Prior experience with Ford engine and vehicle control systems
  • Prior experience in OBD or Functional Safety design
  • Experience with MathWorks/MATLAB or Python for engineering data analysis
  • Ability to read and interpret Simulink flow diagrams and C programming source code
  • Ability to write scripts/code for data analysis tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the OBD Core section, guiding engineers who support a broad range of OBD projects across all propulsion architectures and programs
  • Coach engineers to build deep, specialized technical expertise in major OBD monitors and complex systems
  • Provide back-up technical coverage and support for OBD technical specialists
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture with strong communication and accountability
  • Manage day-to-day section operations, workload prioritization, and staffing needs
  • Handle team administration, including performance management, resource planning, and reporting
  • Support OBD calibration teams to ensure deliverables are met on time
  • Support commodity calibration teams through the OBD DV sign-off process, including HIL/vehicle-level fault, failure, and healing validations
  • Lead OBD calibration process improvements (calibration direction, calibration release error-proofing/APR, self-certification summary templates, data-processing tools/scripts, etc.)
  • Analyze development, sign-off, and quality data to identify hardware, software, or calibration concerns, define root cause, and drive solutions
  • Support OBD validation trips and measures of success to ensure robust, high-quality diagnostics; participate in development trips as needed, including travel to remote locations
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver calibration attributes on time and with high quality, and support timely resolution of launch quality issues
  • Collaborate with research and controls development teams on new vehicle applications and monitor concepts
  • Lead creation of OBD II calibration-related communications and documentation
  • Manage OBD milestone reviews for vehicle programs
  • Facilitate program OBD content planning and work scope definition
  • Ensure process discipline in definition of data collection requirements, MOS, KPIs, data-processing tools, and evidence documentation
  • Partnering with HIL/SIL/M-HIL/CAE teams on virtual vehicle OBD DTC fault and clearing demonstrations, including promoting automation and AI-driven process improvements
  • Supporting enhanced Powertrain Dyno OBD processes and tools to reduce reliance on prototype vehicles
  • Supporting commodity OBD calibrators with vehicle testing/data processing to meet monitoring requirements and warranty improvement actions
  • Partnering with regulatory compliance teams to identify and resolve PVE DV vehicle fault demonstration errors, interpret new regulations and seek approval for diagnostic strategies
  • Managing OBD II sign-off and self-certification testing
