About The Position

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs basic skills per hospital/unit guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Is responsible for preparing the obstetrical/gynecologic suite, handling obstetrical/gynecologic instruments intraoperatively and maintaining a sterile field for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures. Evaluates changing conditions during the obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and makes appropriate responses to them.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of relevant experience in recent, relevant patient care
  • Previous experience with opening sterile supplies/instrument handling/autoclaving, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN, consistent with hospital policies and procedures and unit-based routines, informing patients about treatments, equipment utilized, and other related activities as appropriate.
  • Collects and monitors data and reports physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs of patients and significant others in coordination with and as delineated by the RN documenting activities within areas of responsibility in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepares case tables with necessary equipment for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and provides sterile instruments and supplies during obstetrical/gynecologic procedures.
  • Participates in sponge, needle and instrument counts.
  • Assists with preparation, cleaning and re-stocking of delivery tables.
  • Stocks operation room (OR) suites, patient rooms and sub-sterile areas with supplies/equipment/instruments according to written standard.
  • Maintains a clean work area/unit and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department personnel.
  • Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Maintains a clean unit environment/work area and maintains unit equipment including facilitating the repair of malfunctioning equipment with appropriate department/unit personnel.
  • Prepares patient rooms per unit standard.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
