About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health opened its doors in April 2025 as the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 25 years! Integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8, this enhanced integrated delivery system will establish a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it will ensure residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. Our advanced hospital will offer 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, onsite 550-car parking garage, and a helipad for emergency transport. We are seeking an experienced OB Technician (Part-Time, Nights) Our ideal candidate will meet the needs of the patient by having knowledge of the obstetrical procedures, preparing supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for surgical cases. The OB Technician anticipates the needs in the obstetric surgical field when passing instruments, and assist the surgical team in all obstetric procedures. The OB Technician is responsible for his/her case clean up, for positioning patients, moving patients and room turnovers. This individual also provides leadership and supervisory support to the department.

Requirements

Degree in related nursing field or surgical technology (Completion of an accredited surgical technology program, or degree in nursing RN, LPN)
2 plus years of surgical experience in the obstetric field
Strong understanding of labor and delivery flow and procedures
Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical instrumentation related to all obstetric procedures
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Effective interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities

Responsibilities

Deliver care to the patients in competent, capable, caring, efficient, and safe manner.
Demonstrate compliance with established policies/procedures when delivering care and delegated functions.
Demonstrate ability to prioritize and adjust plan of care to adapt to changing priorities and plan of care as delegated.
Assess, observe, report, and record signs and symptoms indicative of changes in the general condition of the patient.
Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
Proficient in all levels of surgical procedures. This includes scrubbing, knowledge of anatomy, and expertise in the use of instruments and equipment
Assist in coordinating the development of instruments, preference cards, and processes that will facilitate efficient flow of procedures in the operating room.
Assist in the management of instruments, preference cards, and in-services.
Function as a resource for staff regarding instruments, equipment, and preference cards.
Pull supply/equipment/suture for assigned case and opens surgical rooms.
Know all basic set-ups assigned to scrub.
Conduct count of instruments, sponges, and sharps with RN according to department standard.
Perform other job duties/assignments as required.
