YAI was launched in February of 1957 with a dedication to providing innovative services for the I/DD (intellectual and/or developmental disabilities) community, emphasizing personal growth, social responsibility, employment goals, and the development of independence for the individual. Today, YAI has a team of over 4,000 employees and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community, including those with autism, Down syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy, operating throughout Downstate New York and Northern New Jersey with over 300 programs. The NYSTART Coordinator maintains an active caseload of up to 20-25 individuals referred for START Services, providing systemic consultation based on assessments and outreach findings. This role involves conducting regular outreach visits, assisting with referrals for consultation and treatment, coordinating support meetings, and developing crisis plans and comprehensive service evaluations. The Coordinator participates in recurring consultation and staff meetings, provides on-call support on a rotational basis, and ensures timely completion and maintenance of all applicable documentation and trainings to comply with YAI policies and regulatory requirements. The position also involves engaging with community partners and participating in the Center for START Services National Network.
