NVH Engineer I

HL Mando America CorpNovi, MI

About The Position

Lead and support Brake NVH development activities by partnering with Design Engineers, Applications Engineers, CAE Engineers, and Program Managers to collaborate on and communicate NVH-related findings. Drive the analysis and evaluation of status and issues associated with brake product performance characteristics, including Brake drag, DTV, BTV, hysteresis, and caliper/friction interface performance. Conduct trade-off analyses with cross-functional teams and lead the investigation, analysis, development, and implementation of NVH countermeasures. Product focus includes conventional brake calipers, motor-on-caliper brake products, electro-mechanical brake calipers, and other foundation brake components.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Strong basis in fundamental NVH knowledge.
  • Familiarity and ability to utilize NVH measurement equipment such as, Head Acoustics with ArtemiS Software, Link Vehicle DAQ, NVH dynamometer Prolink Software and Capacitec non-contact probes.
  • Computer literate (spreadsheets, Visual Basic, and macros for data analysis, word processing, Power Point).
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to connect academic knowledge with practical problems.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening).
  • People/Team development skills (training, coaching, team building).
  • Results-oriented and takes ownership.
  • Solid judgment (creative, problem-solver, sound decision maker).
  • Good planning skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with multiple internal departments to ensure on-time delivery of work
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of personnel and problems
  • Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment, often under time constraints
  • Ablility to travel to various plants, suppliers and Technical Centers as required.
  • Recommend and initiate improvements in and around work area and related processes (inputs/outputs)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Approximately 2 – 20+ years of automotive experience working in product development with a preferred focus on braking and suspension systems.
  • Friction material development experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Customer requirement analysis and gap analysis for the NVH function, as part of a multifunctional team where trade-offs for all performance requirements are considered.
  • Utilization of NVH measurement equipment and analysis tools (laboratory and virtual) to assess and evaluate NVH performance, and propose improvements against requirements.
  • Perform conventional and non-conventional component, sub-system and system level analysis such as FRF, modal analysis, ODS analysis, and transient response to understand dynamic characteristics.
  • Carry out investigations and causal explanation analysis using noise dynamometers and vibration testing equipment, shakers, chassis dynamometers, vehicle, and other laboratory methods to identify and understand sources of NVH and propose countermeasures.
  • During the Brake NVH development process, work closely with the Design Engineer, Applications Engineer, CAE Engineer, and Program Manager, collaborating and sharing NVH related findings, and participating in the analysis and study of status and issues associated with other brake product performance characteristics (Brake drag, DTV, BTV, hysteresis, caliper/friction interface.) Lead the conduction of trade-off analysis with the multifunctional team, investigate, analyze, and propose and implement NVH countermeasures.
  • Work with Design and Applications Engineer on core projects, including investigating and developing new techniques and methodologies, as well as investigating alternative NVH solutions.
  • Collaborate and coordinate associated NVH lab maintenance, calibration, and documentation for equipment and instrumentation, project, procedure and database. Keep track of NVH development for the program, and work with the Applications Engineer and the Design Engineer in order to consolidate the NVH test and analysis plan into one DVP&R.
  • Support NVH related meetings and reviews with customers, as well as internal customers and suppliers. Process data analysis and write reports.
  • During program development, lead efforts to document work instructions and capture lessons learned.

Benefits

  • Eligible for Hybrid Remote Work Schedule.
