About The Position

The Nutritionist provides nutrition services to clients in a variety of settings within a health district, including clinics, schools, and community settings. The role conducts nutritional assessments and evaluations, develops and monitors nutritional care plans and food packages, and certifies clients for participation in available public health programs. It also schedules, provides, and documents basic and secondary/high-risk nutrition education; makes referrals to programs such as Medicaid, AFDC, and SNAP; and may perform other related administrative tasks.

This position is restricted and subject to annual funding renewal.

Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of nutrition and dietetics principles and practices, their relationship to public health, and applicable program regulations and standards.
• Knowledge of nutrition principles and the ability to make appropriate nutritional assessments for all age groups, including women, infants, and children.
• Ability to obtain, interpret, and evaluate data to describe the population served and outcomes of nutrition interventions.
• Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff individually and in group settings.
• Ability to respond to public inquiries regarding the WIC program.

Nice To Haves

• Registered Dietitian preferred.
• Prior public health experience and/or experience with the WIC program preferred.
