About The Position

Under supervision, this position assists in the preparation and serving of food items in a school cafeteria or central kitchen facility. The role also involves maintaining nutrition services equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. This job class performs entry-level, routine, and manual functions of food preparation.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic kitchen and food serving utensils and equipment.
• Knowledge of basic methods of food preparation.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and procedures.
• Skill to effectively apply proper sanitation and safety requirements associated with food preparation and serving operations.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to learn to operate assigned nutrition services appliances and equipment in a safe manner.
• Ability to read at a level sufficient to perform assigned duties.
• Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations accurately.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely perform the duties of the position.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
• Pass a general knowledge test on meal pattern requirements for the National School Lunch Program.
• Pass a basic math test.
• Pass a pre-placement medical assessment.
• Pass a criminal history check.
