The Nutrition Services Lead is directly responsible to the Manager, the building Principal and the Supervisor of Secondary Nutrition Services Programs for the development and coordination of a site cafeteria in a secondary school. This role operates the Child Nutrition Program (CNP) within established guidelines for Nutrition Services, ensuring a cost-effective program of high integrity. The Lead observes and coordinates meal service activities to provide nutritious meals and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors, ensuring all activities conform to school, Nutrition Services, community, and KSDE standards. They make recommendations for staffing, schedule employee job functions, and train new employees, using professional discretion and confidentiality in managing staff and administering the program. Effective communication and management skills are essential when working with team members and students. The position requires maintaining accurate payroll and timecard information, ensuring food safety during preparation, and adhering to the Nutrition Services HACCP plan and Standard Operating Procedures. Responsibilities also include ensuring the cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen and serving area, demonstrating knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and training employees on its safe use, and maintaining onsite inventory of food and supply items. The Lead orders food and supplies, verifies received items, plans daily menu production, and conducts monthly inventories. They manage customer accounts, maintain accurate records for Nutrition Services and KSDE, handle cash reserves, and prepare daily and monthly reports, including meal accountability and a la carte sales. Meals are prepared in accordance with USDA guidelines and menus, and daily production records are maintained. The Lead acts as the Cafeteria Manager during their absence and communicates with the Nutrition Services Office regarding daily production, health inspections, and maintenance issues. They support the philosophy and mission of Nutrition Services and perform other duties as assigned.
