The Nutrition Services Lead is directly responsible to the Manager, the building Principal and the Supervisor of Secondary Nutrition Services Programs for the development and coordination of a site cafeteria in a secondary school. This role operates the Child Nutrition Program (CNP) within established guidelines, ensuring a cost-effective program of high integrity. The lead observes and coordinates meal service activities to provide nutritious meals and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors, ensuring all activities conform to school, Nutrition Services, community, and KSDE standards. They make recommendations for staffing, schedule employee functions, and train new employees. The position requires professional discretion, confidentiality, and strong communication and management skills. The lead is responsible for maintaining accurate payroll and timecard information, ensuring food safety, following Standard Operating Procedures, and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and serving area. They must demonstrate knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and train employees on its safe use. The role involves managing onsite inventory, ordering food and supplies, verifying deliveries, planning daily menu production, and conducting monthly inventories. Accurate record-keeping for customer accounts, cash handling, and reporting to Nutrition Services and KSDE is essential. The lead prepares meals according to USDA guidelines, maintains Daily Production Records, and acts as the Cafeteria Manager in their absence. Communication with the Nutrition Services Office regarding production, health inspections, and maintenance issues is key. The position supports the philosophy and mission of Nutrition Services and performs other assigned duties.
