About The Position

This is an 8-hour per day, 180-day per year Nutrition Service I - Lead position with benefits at Olympic View Middle School. The anticipated start date is May 12, 2026. The hours for this position are 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The rate of pay does not include a middle school lead stipend. The role involves performing a variety of duties in the preparation and serving of food and supervision of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs at designated school site(s). The Lead will direct, train, and supervise Food Service Workers on daily operations and job duties to ensure the program is compliant with federal and state regulations and creates a safe and friendly environment for students and staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and follow recipes, use kitchen equipment, and follow safety and sanitation rules, and other requirements to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for students.
  • Knowledge of Snohomish County and Washington State food safety, sanitation and proper temperatures including HAACP.
  • Ability to maintain updated knowledge of school policies and procedures that affect the school nutrition services program and this position.
  • Ability to participate in job related training.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to do math calculations and make correct change at a high school level.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and to be flexible in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to correctly and safely lift up to 35 pounds.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Washington State Health Card Required.

Nice To Haves

  • ServSafe certification desired.
  • Previous experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Vocational training in the food service industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food items daily and in a timely manner, including school entrees, a la carte items, and special menu items for the purpose of providing nutritious meals and snacks for students.
  • Supervise Food Service Worker I staff, student helpers and substitutes.
  • Assist with all functions and duties in the kitchen including receiving, storing, preparing, serving and clean up.
  • Prepare appropriate quantity of food items by reading and interpreting recipes for large quantities, following USDA meal pattern requirements.
  • Prepare food orders, production records, monthly inventories, and documentation of food and physical safety logs; maintain daily records as required by federal and state guidelines.
  • Prepare daily cash records and comply with all cash handling procedures as trained and outlined in manual.
  • Operate kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, ovens, and warmers for the purpose of preparing food items and maintaining appropriate food temperatures, following health department rules and regulations.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds in various containers using safe lifting techniques for the purpose of preparing and delivering large quantities of food items to serve students.
  • Assist with daily cleanup of kitchen and service areas including cleaning and proper storage of dishes, food items, and kitchen equipment for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions at all times.
  • Practice good safety habits at all times for the purpose of maintaining health and well-being of school students and staff.
  • Attend monthly lead meetings at the central kitchen to discuss program issues and menu development.
  • Transport money, inventory and appropriate paperwork to nutrition office as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned including ordering/purchasing food and supplies, preparing inventory, and storing supplies for the purpose of maintaining an organized, efficient and safe work environment.
