About The Position

The Nutrition Manager serves as the on-site leader of the school nutrition program and is responsible for the daily operation, compliance, financial stewardship, food safety, meal service, and team leadership functions at an assigned KIPP Atlanta Schools campus. Reporting to the Regional Nutrition Manager, this role ensures scholars receive safe, nutritious, appealing meals while maintaining full compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational requirements. The Nutrition Manager serves as the operational owner of the campus nutrition program and is accountable for meal quality, food safety, inventory management, financial controls, regulatory compliance, staff development, and customer service. This role directly supervises Nutrition Assistant Managers, Senior Nutrition Assistants, Nutrition Assistants, and substitute staff while developing future nutrition leaders through coaching, training, and performance management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of food service, nutrition, hospitality, culinary, or related operational experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety, sanitation, inventory management, and customer service practices.
  • Experience managing operational processes, compliance requirements, and team performance.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and utilize reports to make operational decisions.
  • Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, customer-service-focused environment.
  • Ability to maintain excellence while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to scholar wellness and service excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Nutrition, Food Service Management, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Previous school nutrition experience.
  • Experience supporting USDA Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Experience with PrimeroEdge, SchoolCafe, or similar nutrition management systems.
  • Experience supporting compliance reviews, audits, or regulatory inspections.
  • Bilingual communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all daily food production and meal service operations to ensure scholars receive high-quality meals that meet nutritional standards and service expectations.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee daily meal preparation, production schedules, and service delivery.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served in accordance with USDA meal pattern requirements and organizational standards.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, portion control, and customer experience.
  • Ensure meal service aligns with campus schedules and operational requirements.
  • Monitor meal participation trends and implement strategies to increase scholar engagement and participation.
  • Conduct menu feedback cycles and gather scholar input to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate implementation of Offer Versus Serve (OVS) and meal accountability procedures.
  • Serve as the designated Person-in-Charge (PIC) and maintain responsibility for all food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA regulations, Georgia Department of Education requirements, health department standards, and organizational policies.
  • Oversee HACCP implementation, temperature monitoring, sanitation procedures, allergen management, and corrective action protocols.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, storage, and product accountability processes.
  • Verify delivery accuracy, invoice reconciliation, and inventory reporting.
  • Monitor food costs, labor efficiency, participation data, and operational performance metrics.
  • Conduct meal count verification, edit checks, and documentation reviews to support reimbursement accuracy.
  • Support audit readiness, administrative reviews, internal compliance reviews, and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of kitchen equipment and facilities.
  • Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate Nutrition Assistant Managers, Senior Nutrition Assistants, Nutrition Assistants, and substitute staff.
  • Create staffing schedules and ensure adequate coverage for daily operations.
  • Support onboarding, training, certification compliance, and professional development of nutrition staff.
  • Build leadership capacity within the nutrition team through coaching and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, service excellence, and scholar-centered decision-making.
  • Resolve customer concerns and support positive relationships with scholars, families, staff, and school leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Nutrition Manager and school leadership to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Support implementation of wellness initiatives, nutrition education efforts, and school-wide events as needed.
