About The Position

This position involves providing WIC nutritional services across various sites in Volusia County. The role requires assessing, certifying, and counseling WIC applicants as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA), utilizing VENA counseling techniques. The Nutrition Educator will also assess participants for high-risk status, develop care plans, provide low and high-risk contacts, and document counseling sessions. A key aspect of the role is promoting breastfeeding for pregnant and postpartum women and providing referrals to community resources as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate a nutrition program or project.
  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition and dietetics.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions
  • Must have current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in nutrition science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition
  • Must be willing to travel to outlaying sites using your own vehicle if needed (mileage will be provided in accordance with agency policy) and/or state vehicle
  • All Florida Department of Health positions require the incumbent to be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide WIC nutritional services in various sites throughout Volusia County and other future sites as needed.
  • Provides nutrition assessment, certification, and counseling of WIC applicants as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA).
  • Certifies WIC eligible participants using VENA (Value Enhanced Nutritional Assessment) counseling techniques.
  • Completes all initial and ongoing training required for a CPA.
  • Assesses participants for high risk status and completes high risk care plans per current protocol.
  • Provides low and high risk contacts per protocol.
  • Documents interactive counseling sessions per required format.
  • Promotes breastfeeding for pregnant and postpartum women.
  • Provides/documents healthcare referrals for community resources, as needed by the participant.
