About The Position

St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center is a 23 bed non-profit facility providing quality health care to patients and communities in and around Glendale, Arizona. It is part of CommonSpirit Health, which operates 139 hospitals and over 1,000 care sites across 21 states. The Nutrition Assistant Intermediate will participate in and support all aspects of healthcare food service operations, working with facility staff to provide optimal nutritional care and demonstrating excellent customer service to patients, guests, and staff. This role involves following the diet manual handbook and diet spreadsheets to ensure therapeutic meal compliance with prescribed diet orders. This is a PRN (Per Diem or As Needed) role that is non-benefitted, with no set schedule, and requires availability for early morning and late evening shifts.

Requirements

  • One (1) year Food Service experience
  • AZ Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and support all aspects of healthcare food service operations.
  • Work with facility staff to provide optimal nutritional care.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service to patients, guests and staff.
  • Follow diet manual handbook and diet spreadsheets to ensure therapeutic meal compliance with prescribed diet order.
  • Follow healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, guidelines and procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage processes.
  • Avoid cross-contamination of foods.
  • Adhere to personal hygiene requirements.
  • Maintain proper labeling of food products.
  • Ensure storage of food equipment, and machinery per regulations & facility guidelines.
  • Prepare and serve food within guidelines of menu & dietary requirements using required kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of recipe ingredients to respond to food allergy questions or requests.
  • Follow organizational standards and guidelines for a high quality patient and customer experience.
  • Ensure proper meal portioning and an aesthetically pleasing presentation.
  • Support team members in all areas of food services including cashier, retail, stocking, cleaning, tray service, dishwashing, food storage and food prep, etc.
