Position Summary Reporting to the General Manager and working in collaboration with operational and clinical leadership, the Nurse Supervisor provides interim clinical leadership and day-to-day supervisory support within the community during a temporary leadership transition and active recruitment period. This temporary role is responsible for supporting the operational and clinical functions typically overseen by the Director of Care, while ensuring continuity of resident care, team supervision, regulatory compliance, and clinical operations. The Nurse Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to the care team, supports resident care coordination, oversees clinical documentation and workflows, and assists with maintaining quality standards and safe care practices across the community. This role is intended as an interim operational support position and will conclude once permanent clinical leadership has been successfully recruited and onboarded. All duties and responsibilities are carried out in alignment with Optima Living’s mission, vision, and values, promoting person-centered care by respecting the uniqueness, dignity, and self-determination of residents to support maximum personal and functional independence. These duties are performed within the framework of established organizational policies and procedures, industry best practices, and all applicable regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved nursing program.
  • Maintains current registration and good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent nursing experience in a residential care, assisted living, long-term care, supportive living, or mental health environment is preferred.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, charge nurse, clinical lead, or care coordination experience is preferred.
  • Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and understanding of senior care practices, chronic disease management, and aging-related issues.
  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities with the ability to support, mentor, and guide clinical teams.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and crisis management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present professional documentation clearly and accurately.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and utilize systems such as PointClickCare, eMAR, and Yardi.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in fast-paced and changing environments.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the position in accordance with applicable health and safety legislation.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, evenings, and on-call support as operationally required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day clinical leadership, supervision, and support to nursing and care teams.
  • Supports coordination of daily clinical operations to ensure resident care needs are consistently met.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and mentor to Nurses, Health Care Aides, and other care team members.
  • Provides guidance during complex, urgent, or unexpected resident care situations.
  • Supports the implementation and interpretation of organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Assists with staffing coordination and scheduling support to maintain appropriate clinical coverage.
  • Supports onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of clinical team members.
  • Participates in team meetings, resident care conferences, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Promotes a positive and collaborative team environment focused on accountability, communication, and resident-centered care.
  • Supports the assessment, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of resident care and service.
  • Oversees resident care documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of resident care plans and service plans.
  • Monitors resident health status and communicates significant changes to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Oversees medication management processes and supports safe medication practices.
  • Supports resident move-ins, transfers, and transitions in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ensures resident independence, autonomy, and personal choice through ethical and person-centered care practices.
  • Assists with ensuring resident suites and clinical environments meet safety and operational standards.
  • Supports organizational audits, inspections, investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Identifies risks, concerns, and areas requiring improvement and assists in implementing corrective actions.
  • Investigates and documents incidents, concerns, and complaints in accordance with organizational processes.
  • Supports compliance with applicable provincial legislation, licensing requirements, infection prevention and control standards, and professional practice expectations.
  • Ensures clinical team members maintain compliance with organizational policies, education requirements, and scope of practice standards.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate records, reporting systems, and required clinical documentation.
  • Maintains professional and compassionate communication with residents, families, physicians, and external partners.
  • Responds to resident and family concerns with empathy, professionalism, and timely follow-up.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community leadership to support resident well-being and operational effectiveness.
  • Supports a welcoming and respectful environment that reflects Optima Living’s values and resident-first philosophy.
  • Responds promptly during emergency situations and organizational emergency codes.
  • Ensures adherence to Occupational Health and Safety requirements and infection prevention and control practices.
  • Promptly reports unsafe conditions, incidents, and operational concerns.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of resident, team member, and organizational information in accordance with privacy legislation.
  • Completes orientation and all mandatory education requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support operational and clinical needs.
