About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor LPN will supervise and direct licensed and non-licensed nursing employees. This role promotes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, lab, and pharmacy partners to ensure proper, timely, and safe patient care. The supervisor also fosters collaborative relationships with nursing staff, other departments, patients, families, visitors, and other healthcare centers. Key responsibilities include directing and supervising patient care delivery, performing patient assessments, planning and implementing nursing care, documenting interventions, and reporting significant changes in patient condition to the clinical team and physicians. The role involves conducting chart audits for accuracy and timeliness, keeping nursing administration informed of patient care evaluations and employee concerns, and participating in clinical rounds. The supervisor reviews physician orders, diagnostic reports, and pharmacy reports, follows up on medication changes, and addresses patient complaints promptly. Accident/incident reports are completed and submitted, and the supervisor may perform or assist with patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, IV therapy, wound care, medication administration, and catheter insertion. The role also assists in developing and updating patient care plans and participates in patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring rooms are prepared for new admissions. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification.

  • Two years of nursing management in acute/post-acute or urgent care, preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent clinical, customer service and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs licensed and non-licensed nursing employees.
  • Promotes and maintains an effective working relationship with physicians/physician extenders, lab, and pharmacy partners.
  • Promotes and maintains an effective collaborative working relationship with nursing employees, other departments, patients, families, visitors, and other health care centers.
  • Directs and supervises the delivery of patient care.
  • Performs patient assessment, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care and management for the well-being of a patient.
  • Reports any significant change in a patient’s condition to other clinical team members.
  • Completes required documentation.
  • Routinely conduct chart audits to validate that nursing care documentation is appropriate, accurate, and timely.
  • Keeps nursing administration and management informed regarding evaluations of patient care and employee practice/behavioral concerns.
  • Participate in clinical rounds with medical providers when indicated.
  • Reviews physician/physician extender orders, diagnostic and pharmacy reports.
  • Follows up with pharmacy regarding a change in medication.
  • Address complaints and follow-up in a timely manner.
  • Completes accident/incident report(s) as indicated with follow-up.
  • Performs and/or assists with patient care tasks as indicated, for example (phlebotomy, initiate IV therapy, manage central lines, perform wound care management, administer medications, insert indwelling urinary catheter, perform tracheostomy/colostomy/ileostomy care, manage enteral therapy for patient with feeding tubes and other nursing procedures).
  • Assists in the development of the patient’s plan of care and assists updating the plan of care as indicated.
  • Participates in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Provides report for new patient admissions, as indicated, while ensuring that rooms are ready and prepared to receive a new patient admission prior to the patient arriving, as indicated.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
