About The Position

Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee. Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis. Requirements

  • Valid Tennessee Registered Nurse license
  • Registered RN with minimum of 2 years’ direct care experience in mental health field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision to Emergency Psychiatric Services nursing staff.
  • Ensure all protocols and procedures as set forth by the agency and payor sources are carried out and fulfilled.
  • Ensure that consumers admitted to Emergency Psychiatric Services are promptly assessed.
  • Work with Director of Nursing and Emergency Psychiatric Services Medical Director to update protocols and ensure all nursing staff stay updated on any protocol changes.
  • Co-lead staff meetings with Director of Nursing and develop agenda for meetings that focuses on motivating Emergency Psychiatric Services team and ensuring that all staff members are educated and informed of any changes that impact operations in Emergency Psychiatric Services.
  • Promptly address team concerns and work to obtain resolution.
  • Counsel Emergency Psychiatric Services nursing staff on performance and complete scheduled performance appraisals within designated timelines.
  • Monitor activity and performance of all Diversion Services nursing staff.
  • Assist in hiring, orienting, and training Diversion Services nurses.
  • Work with scheduler and members of the Diversion Services leadership team to ensure that all shifts have appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Provide after-hours on-call supervisory coverage as needed.
  • Display workplace flexibility including providing direct line services as needed on the unit.
  • Complete monthly supervisions with nursing staff.
  • Work with Emergency Psychiatric Services leadership team to meet agency goals.
  • Maintain and facilitate communication regarding consumer’s care with all relevant staff.
  • Assist staff in monitoring consumer’s behavior, level of cooperation, and ability to remain safe while in Diversion Services.
  • Report all maintenance/facility issues.
  • Work with consumers during their stay in Emergency Psychiatric Services to reduce psychiatric symptoms and facilitate their return to a less restrictive environment.
  • Ensure team maintains timely and appropriate documentation as required by the Agency.
  • Develop and maintain community and MHC inter-departmental relations.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of Emergency Psychiatric Services to ensure that an active programming schedule is completed daily.
  • Ensure that adequate medical supplies are ordered in a timely manner in all Emergency Psychiatric Services locations.
  • Provide feedback on ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of all programs.
  • Complete documentation audits for all Emergency Psychiatric Services nurses as required.
