About The Position

Geisinger Medical Center is offering a paid Nurse Extern opportunity in Interventional Radiology for nursing students entering their senior year. The 10-week program combines education and clinical practice in an outpatient ambulatory setting, where externs work alongside experienced nurses, assist with patient care, learn clinical operations, and receive professional mentorship. The program is typically 40 hours per week and offers flexible scheduling. Externs must not perform procedures requiring state licensure. The position is part of an educational and clinical work experience for students enrolled in nursing studies. Under the immediate supervision of a registered nurse preceptor and as assigned by the nurse in charge, the extern assists with patient care and reports patient physical, psychological, and emotional conditions. The role includes three expanded observational experiences during the program and participation in patient safety activities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The externship runs June 6 through August 14, 2027. Mandatory orientation is June 1 through June 4. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program, entering their senior year, and expected to graduate in December 2027 or May 2028. A resume is required with the application.
