About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for nursing student(s) to perform a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for assigned clinic patients. Students must be currently enrolled in an affiliated program with an approved rotation by FHCSD. FHCSD is an established, non-profit organization with close to 1,500 employees, dedicated to providing exceptional care in the community. They are a national leader among community health centers, accredited by the Joint Commission and designated as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). FHCSD was founded by community activists working towards a common goal: caring, affordable, high-quality medical care for all. They continue this mission today, providing accessible services to over 210,000 patients across San Diego County.

Requirements

  • Interest in community and public health care practices.
  • Licensure and clearance may be required for specific assignments.
  • Enrollment in an accredited school for certification/degree.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.
  • Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments.
  • Intermediate interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community medicine and providing culturally competent care to the medically underserved.

Nice To Haves

  • Current CPR certification preferred (not required)
  • Spanish/English/Arabic fluency desired, but not always required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties as assigned by rotation and clinic under direct supervision.
  • The nursing student provides support to an assigned department as a learner/student while gaining knowledge of community health care.
