About The Position

The PRN Nursing Student Care Associate works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to assist patients with activities of daily living and support the overall plan of care. The role includes direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The associate is expected to maintain high standards of professional ethics and contribute to quality patient care.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed at least one fundamental nursing course with clinical in an accredited nursing program.
• Maintain active enrollment in nursing school.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
• Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy/EKG competency or venipuncture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, and transport, while following standard precautions.
• Perform technical duties as directed by an RN, including phlebotomy, taking vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care, and document appropriately.
• Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN, respond appropriately, and maintain safe patient practices.
• Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
• Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
• Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
• Adhere consistently to safety protocols and quality standards to support a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
• Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
