About The Position

The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for a Nursing Station Technician to join their team. This role is on the Neuroscience unit, providing care to adult patients with complex medical conditions including neurological, neurosurgical, ENT, and trauma patients. The unit utilizes advanced monitoring technology and manages complex medication and infusion therapies. Patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the unit are also cared for. This position is .3FTE (24 hours per 2 week pay period) with day and evening shifts, and every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), consisting of 8-hour shifts. The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid role combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties, working under the direct supervision of a professional nurse. Responsibilities include direct patient care (personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, feeding) and administrative duties (answering phones, processing admissions/discharges/transfers, transcribing orders, assembling charts, ordering tests, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, ordering and stocking supplies).

Requirements

  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).
  • OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
  • Exceptional communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
  • Maintain unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms.
  • Order and stock supplies.
