About The Position

The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for a Nursing Station Technician to join their team. This role is on the Neuroscience unit, providing care to adult patients with complex medical conditions including neurological, neurosurgical, ENT, and trauma patients. The unit utilizes advanced monitoring technology and manages complex medication and infusion therapies. Patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the unit are also cared for. This position is .8 FTE, working 64 hours per 2-week pay period, with evening shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm (8-hour shifts). The Nursing Station Technician performs a hybrid role, combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties. Working under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, the technician will demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit. Duties include direct patient care such as personal hygiene, taking vitals, assisting with daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding. Administrative duties involve managing the unit desk, answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests. The role also includes setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and ordering and stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).
  • OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position. Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • Exceptional communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required.
