About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Nursing Station Technician (NST) for their Med/Surg 7B unit at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview, providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of the community. This position will be working 0.5 FTE (40 hours every two weeks) with 8-hour evening shifts (3pm-11:30pm) and requires working every other weekend rotation. The 7B unit is a 22-bed unit that provides care for adult patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, and those with Cystic Fibrosis or General Medicine needs. Patient ratios are 7-8 patients for day and evening shifts, and 11 patients for night shifts.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care and is cross trained to Health Unit Coordinator duties.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit.
  • Perform patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
  • Maintain unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms.
  • Order and stock supplies.
