About The Position

The Nursing Station Technician on the 39 bed Oncology unit will help adult patients with oncologic malignancies. Our focus is adult gynecology, oncology, colorectal and plastic surgery patients. Our services include surgical care, chemotherapy and blood administration. We manage complex medication and infusion therapies, and care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic surgeries, procedures and interventions on the unit. This position is a hybrid role combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties, delivering direct patient care and administrative tasks under the supervision of a professional nurse. The role requires excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants need to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • OR Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).
  • OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist adult patients with oncologic malignancies, including those with gynecologic, colorectal, and plastic surgery diagnoses.
  • Provide surgical care, administer chemotherapy and blood products.
  • Manage complex medication and infusion therapies.
  • Care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic surgeries, procedures, and interventions on the unit.
  • Perform patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, taking vital signs, assisting with daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding.
  • Maintain unit desk area functions, including answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests.
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms.
  • Order and stock supplies.
