About The Position

St. John's Hospital located in Maplewood, MN is looking for a dedicated Nursing Station Technician (NST) to care for patients on our NICU unit. This role offers a schedule of 56 hours per pay period (0.7 FTE) on the Night Shift, working 8 hour shifts, Variable schedule, and includes an every other weekend rotation. About this Unit: Our unit offers 29 LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery & post-partum) beds plus 2 triage rooms. We have 1 water birth room and 2 OR suites. We provide single room care, which provides patients and families with outstanding care, all within the same room throughout their stay. We average 200+ deliveries a month and manage many outpatients daily for antenatal testing. Daily census is 18 mom and baby couplets. Our NICU is newly remodeled, and we are pleased to expand our care to higher risk patients (28 weeks gestational age). The NST is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Responsibilities

Work under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator.
Perform delegated nursing functions to assigned patients including personal care, ambulation, exercise, nutrition, specimen collection and vital signs.
Perform special procedures (eg: skin care) as defined by patient care unit practice guidelines.
Observe patients and report any changes in status to appropriate staff.
Communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
Perform environmental and other responsibilities as assigned.
Maintain the medical record.
Schedule patient tests and procedures.
Maintain unit communication systems and central desk area.
Responsible for the completion of clerical duties in an organized and priority-based manner.
Receive all patients, family members, visitors and other members of the health team.
Maintain unit stock/supplies/equipment.
Participate in staff development.
