About The Position

The Nursing Simulation Instructor provides simulation-based instruction and learning experiences for students enrolled in a Wake Tech Nursing Program. This position collaborates with nursing faculty and program leadership to develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate simulation experiences that support course objectives, student learning outcomes, clinical judgment, competency development, and safe nursing practice. The Nursing Simulation Instructor facilitates skills instruction, clinical simulation scenarios, and structured debriefing using evidence-based simulation practices and a variety of simulation modalities and technologies. The position supports the integration of simulation throughout the ADN and LPN curricula and provides students with opportunities to develop and demonstrate clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, and nursing competencies in a safe learning environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Current, active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license or multistate licensure privilege to practice in North Carolina.
  • Two years of full-time clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience developing and facilitating healthcare simulation scenarios.
  • Experience facilitating structured simulation debriefing.
  • Experience using high-fidelity patient simulators, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and other simulation technologies.
  • Knowledge of nursing education, clinical nursing practice, simulation-based education, and student competency assessment.
  • Knowledge of simulation methodologies, including scenario development, prebriefing, facilitation, and debriefing.
  • Ability to facilitate simulation experiences that develop clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, patient safety, and nursing competencies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with ADN and LPN faculty to integrate simulation into nursing curricula.
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and provide effective instruction, coaching, remediation, and feedback.
  • Ability to operate and effectively use simulation equipment, technology, audiovisual systems, and related instructional technologies.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student and simulation records and meet established deadlines.
  • Commitment to student success, professional nursing standards, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching in an Associate Degree Nursing and/or Practical Nursing program.
  • Experience with nursing skills validation and student remediation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of North Carolina Board of Nursing rules and regulations and ACEN Standards and Criteria applicable to nursing education programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in nursing curriculum, program evaluation, student and program outcomes, continuous quality improvement, and academic administration.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential or willingness to pursue certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction in nursing skills, simulation scenarios, and structured debriefing to support achievement of course objectives, student learning outcomes, and clinical competencies.
  • Collaborates with ADN and LPN faculty to integrate simulation into the nursing curricula and ensure simulation experiences are appropriate to students' level of learning and course content.
  • Develops and implements simulation scenarios and learning activities that promote clinical judgment, prioritization, communication, teamwork, patient safety, and evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Facilitates pre-briefing, simulation, and debriefing using established standards and evidence-based simulation practices.
  • Provides instruction and remediation in nursing skills and clinical competencies within the simulation and skills laboratory environments.
  • Evaluates student performance during simulation and skills experiences and provides timely, constructive feedback consistent with established course and program expectations.
  • Collaborates with nursing faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation activities and uses student, faculty, and program outcome data to improve simulation-based learning experiences.
  • Assists other nursing faculty with the use and integration of simulation technology and provides instructional support for simulation-based teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates with other nursing simulation personnel regarding simulation schedules, scenario preparation, equipment, supplies, technology, and instructional needs.
  • Maintains documentation of simulation activities, student participation, competency assessment, and other records necessary to support nursing program evaluation, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing practice, simulation methodology, debriefing, educational technology, and evidence-based nursing education.
  • Participates in nursing program evaluation, accreditation activities, faculty meetings, professional development, and other College activities related to assigned responsibilities.
  • May provide classroom, laboratory, or clinical instruction and student evaluation as assigned and consistent with faculty qualifications and program needs.
