About The Position

Hope Haven of East Texas is a Christian, faith-based non-profit providing a direct solution to the foster care crisis in East Texas. We demonstrate Christ’s love to children and teens in the foster care system by providing home, healing, and hope through a combination of residential and family care, life skills training, and professional mental and behavioral support because we believe that every child deserves to be safe and equipped for the future.

Requirements

  • ADN is required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Texas
  • Two years of experience in clinical practice in a hospital or medical clinic.
  • Experience with pediatric or adolescent females.
  • Understanding of a field of knowledge that involves the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions dealing with abstract variables.
  • Ability to be certified in CPR & First-Aid, Medication Administration, and Behavior intervention which includes physical restraint of young adults.
  • Ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry or combative; and ability to differentiate tones and volume in conversations to determine mood and response to person.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, using sound judgement.
  • Ability to exercise patience, good judgment, and confidentiality; to observe and make accurate assessments of situations with available information.
  • Ability to be on call as assigned and attend training and events after office hours and/or on weekends.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and remain flexible.
  • Ability to respond in crisis situations and under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with young adults, other employees, and the public.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team to achieve strategic results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate the mission and vision of the organization and the needs of children in foster care.
  • Must acknowledge the unique Statement of Faith mission of Hope Haven of East Texas and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among the agency’s service population.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of psychotropic medications is considered a plus.
  • Experience with behavioral services is considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing nursing and medical assessments.
  • Collaborates with the GRO Treatment Director with psychiatric providers.
  • Serves as the primary advisor to the case managers on all medical questions, appointments, and needs.
  • Oversee the monitoring of residents' vital signs, blood glucose levels, and general health status.
  • Oversee chronic disease education and management.
  • Lead weekly medication audits and follow up on corrections.
  • Oversees audit of prescription refill logs, destruction logs, and perform to-go folder reviews.
  • Teach and train staff on medication policies, administration protocols, and emergency medical equipment.
  • Create and maintain accurate medication processes, tools, and policies.
  • Attend all psychiatric medication reviews and make recommendations for changes.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of medication changes and provide ongoing updates.
  • Works collaboratively in the development of safety plans, goal agreements, and service plans.
  • Conduct ongoing education sessions for residents on medication use, diagnoses, and medical self-care.
  • Serves on a team of contacts for foster families with medical or psychiatric needs.
  • Provide training in Pressley Ridge, psychotropic medications, and nursing education for staff and families.
  • Attends and participates in program meetings.
  • Participates in GOH and Oak Haven staff meetings when necessary.
  • Support contract development, licensing documentation, and policy creation.
  • Train staff in all areas of medical, psychiatric, and medication management.
  • Document all medical notes in Extended Reach.
  • Respond to and document all medication errors and treatment protocols.
  • Track and follow-up on hospitalizations and provider communications.
  • Develop and track data on client satisfaction.
  • Lead efforts to design and implement new medical processes.
  • Create and update educational tools, logs, curricula, and resource materials for clients and staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership on development of new initiatives, contracts, and intake procedures.
  • Partner with institutions to establish clinical training opportunities at GOH.
  • Conduct T3C and heightened monitoring planning for medical protocols.
