Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• 3 years’ experience in nursing professional development in either a hospital or academic setting, or demonstrated expertise in a clinically equivalent role.
• Current New York State registered nurse license.
• BLS/ACLS provider status required, BLS/ACLS instructor status required, or achieved within 1 year of date of hire.
• PALS provider status for practitioners assigned to pediatric areas, i.e., Children’s ED, Pediatric Unit (5W), and ICU.
• ANCC Nursing Professional Development (NPD) certification required, or achieved when ANCC eligibility criteria are met (4000 clinical practice hours).
• Travel to multiple facilities is required.
• Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility.
• No routine exposure to hazards.
• Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
• Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
• Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
• Ability to lift 30 lbs.
• Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
• Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
• May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in nursing / education / or Post-Master’s certification in nursing education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and uses tools, theories, skills and knowledge of NPD to improve the practice of staff.
• Learning facilitator: Uses the educational design process to bridge the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through needs assessment.
• Change agent: Actively works to transform processes at micro, meso-, and macro-system levels through inspiration, initiation, adoption, and sustainment of and adaptation to change using project management and improvement processes.
• Mentor: Advances the profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting life-long learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings.
• Leader: Influences the interprofessional practice and learning environments, the NPD specialty, the profession of nursing, and healthcare.
• Champion of scientific inquiry: Promotes the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice, guide clinical practice, and improve patient care.
• Advocate for NPD specialty: Actively supports, promotes, and demonstrates nursing professional development as a nursing practice specialty.
• Partner for practice transitions: Supports the transition of nurses and other healthcare team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages.
• Overall outputs of NPD practice are learning, change, professional role competence and growth, which ultimately lead to optimal patient care, population health, and protection of the public.
