About The Position

This position involves the single or multi-department management of operations, overseeing day-to-day activities, and directing, supervising, orienting, training, and evaluating staff. The role requires enforcing policies, procedures, and standards of operation, and may include budgetary or fiscal accountability. The Nursing Manager renders individualized comprehensive nursing care based on the nursing process to meet patient needs and manages staff to achieve designated goals. Key responsibilities include approving timekeeping, employee evaluations, meeting regulatory standards, approving supply orders, and department strategic planning.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree from an Accredited Nursing School or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum total of 3-5 years clinical experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry.
  • 2 years management experience.
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Arizona.
  • CPR required.
  • ACLS is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care according to designated standards and practices.
  • Assists in ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of patient care.
  • Establishes a mechanism to track customer service performance and takes corrective action to address any issues.
  • Participates in the development of annual budgets that reflect appropriate expenditures for personnel, supplies, and equipment.
  • Manages to budget; monitors variances between budgeted and actual expense reports and takes action to correct negative variances within appropriate time lines.
  • Assists with Kronos/payroll to assure accurate data entry.
  • Participates in the interview, selection, and orientation process for new team members in collaboration with nursing management, RN staff, and other team members.
  • Completes appropriate reports and institutes appropriate measures in the event of an unusual occurrence, e.g. patient fall, medication error, etc.
  • Responsible for the containment of department costs and conservation of supplies, equipment, and linen.
  • Acts and intervenes with ethical issues including clinical concerns, sexual and harassment issues, and physician/nurse relations.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all department-related issues.
  • Evaluates the department/service’s performance against specified targets and takes appropriate actions.
  • Participates in committees.
  • Maintains a state of continued survey readiness.
  • Provides leadership for continued survey readiness team.
  • Responsible for day-to-day staffing and making appropriate decisions based on patient needs and skill level of caregiver.
  • Responsible for developing the staffing schedule and posting it within established timeframe guidelines.
  • Guides staff in the advancement of their education and leadership skills, particularly team building, conflict resolution, and delegation.
  • Schedules day-to-day activities i.e. breaks, sending people home, etc.
  • Coordinates and participates in assuring completion of the orientation competency checklist for new hires and annual competencies for all employees.
  • Manages employee performance by participating in evaluation process and coaching.
  • Assists the Director with special projects as delegated.
  • Conducts staff meetings as needed.
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
