About The Position

The Nursing Lab Operations Technician provides essential operational and technical support for the skills lab and simulation center. This role involves preparing the lab environment, including supplies, equipment, and technology, and operating simulation technologies such as high-fidelity mannequins and task trainers. The technician will offer real-time technical support during simulation sessions, assist with audio/visual recording and streaming, and guide users in the lab spaces. Additionally, the position supports faculty orientation, performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and manages scheduling and inventory. Key responsibilities include ensuring learner safety, confidentiality, and professional standards, as well as attending meetings and potentially serving on university committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Licensure or certification in nursing or related allied health profession
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, equipment, and supplies
  • Perform extensive walking, lifting weighted materials (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Experience in academic operations, scheduling, or project coordination
  • Experience operating audiovisual systems

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • CHSE and/or CHSOS certification
  • Experience in healthcare simulation

Responsibilities

  • Prepares skills lab environments, including supplies, equipment, and technology.
  • Prepares and operates simulation technologies including high fidelity mannequins, task trainers, standardized patients, audiovisual systems, and related software.
  • Provides real-time support, including troubleshooting technical issues, during live simulation and skills lab sessions to facilitate student learning.
  • Supports audio and video recording, live-streaming, and playback for instructional and debriefing purposes.
  • Provides operational guidance to users in simulation and lab spaces.
  • Assists with faculty orientation to lab spaces.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Schedules simulation and skills lab activities.
  • Tracks utilization of lab rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Conducts routine inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Proactively communicates with faculty regarding planned educational activities.
  • Notifies the Simulation Lab Coordinator of needed purchases or repairs.
  • Upholds learner safety, confidentiality, and professional standards at all times.
  • Attends meetings, as scheduled.
  • Participates in University events.
  • Serves on committees within the SON and University.
