About The Position

Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, seeks energetic and teaching-focused full-time Nursing faculty. Our Nursing Program has a strong tradition of preparing nurses to be life-long learners and to practice safely, accurately and compassionately in varied settings. Our faculty teach our nursing undergraduates to have clinical and professional excellence in response to the changing health care climate. You will teach the attributes of accountability, caring, innovation, safety, social and cultural awareness, critical thinking and decision-making, life-long learning, and respect for the dignity and worth of human life. We believe in allowing a diverse group of students to have affordable nursing education. Chemeketa also understands that faculty applicants may be new to teaching and has created a wrap- around, comprehensive Nursing Educator Supported Transitions (NEST) program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing
  • Enrollment in a Master degree in nursing program
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license -OR- eligible for Oregon Licensure (no investigation pending by any State Board of Nursing)
  • Minimum of three years of full-time patient care experience at the registered nurse level
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Master's or doctoral degree in a related field
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated competency in teaching through experience, educational preparation, or continuing education
  • Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction
  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others
  • Demonstrates ability or desire to work with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse students and communities
  • Demonstrates ability or desire to work with a variety of technological media

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Nursing
  • Teaching experience in nursing education program within the past five years
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Participates in curriculum development; recommends course outline revisions
  • Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends library and reference materials
  • Contributes suggestions for annual department budget
  • Keeps up to date on technological changes and developments in subject area
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work; represents the department at pertinent meetings as required
  • Works in a cooperative manner with other people in the department and college
  • Communicates in a timely manner with students and department personnel
  • Promotes positive image of college and college programs
  • Develops and maintains contacts with community and professional organizations
  • Assists Advisory Committee as needed
  • Functions as a life-long learner
  • Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools
  • Meets all scheduled and special classes-day, evening, nights, week-ends, and 12-hour shifts
  • Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines
  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes
  • Posts and maintains office hours
  • Provides students with course syllabi
  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required
  • Maintains college facilities and equipment
  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online
  • Creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness
  • Encourages creative and critical thinking
