About The Position

The SWOSU Nursing Department seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, in-person Nursing Instructor. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Responsibilities include planning and teaching curriculum aligned with program outcomes, maintaining expertise in nursing practice and education, advising pre-nursing students, evaluating student performance, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and licensure standards.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience required. Community nursing experience preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered Oklahoma RN license.
  • Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and collegiality.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and learning management system (Canvas).
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to present information to small and large groups.
  • Ability to manage stress, maintain emotional stability, and support students effectively.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, reach, climb steps, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic mathematical competency (rates, fractions, etc.).

  • Community nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a caring, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Plan and deliver course content and assessments aligned with current curriculum and program outcomes. The Department Chair makes teaching assignments.
  • Teach according to approved syllabi and provide timely updates, grading, and communication regarding course expectations and student progress.
  • Coordinate assigned classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning experiences.
  • Use instructional technologies and consider varied learning styles to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records, including attendance and grade documentation.
  • Submit course syllabi each term to the Program Coordinator.
  • Provide academic and career guidance, mentoring, and referrals to campus resources.
  • Maintain posted office hours and support student retention and success.
  • Maintain nursing and teaching expertise and participate in professional organizations.
  • Participate in curriculum evaluation and program review; make recommendations for improvement.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments, including exams, quizzes, evaluations, and other measures.
  • Recommend textbooks, instructional materials, technologies, and lab resources.
  • Ensure hybrid/online courses meet the same rigor, quality, and privacy standards as traditional courses.
  • Integrate theory with supervised clinical performance in assigned settings.
  • Orient students and communicate clinical objectives to students and adjunct clinical faculty.
  • Guide, supervise, and evaluate students in patient care and skills performance.
  • Mentor and support adjunct clinical faculty.
  • Travel to and from clinical sites as required.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and nursing regulatory board requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership, department chair, or university administration.
