About The Position

Coastal Pines Behavioral Health will be a modern, purpose-built facility and a cornerstone of behavioral health care in Northeast Florida, designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality psychiatric services in the region. The 144-bed behavioral health hospital, located in St. Johns, will offer a full continuum of services including inpatient psychiatric care, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). This position is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the facility's nursing operations and ensures adequate staffing to provide care. When scheduled, the supervisor oversees the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services with a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude. The role collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to ensure all resident needs are met and resolves customer complaints. The position provides leadership to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as nursing practice standards, recognizing that patient safety is a top priority. This position requires a Level 2 Background Screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Applicants are encouraged to review the requirements before applying.

Requirements

  • Current registered nursing license in State of facility required
  • 1 year of experience as an RN in any setting required
  • Current certification or license to practice within the state where the facility is located.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • Must have behavioral health experience

Nice To Haves

  • BSN from accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • Greater than 1 year of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
  • 1 year in psychiatric/recovery programs preferred.
  • Some experience as a charge RN or other leadership position strongly preferred.
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Anticipates and effectively manages changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of patient acuity/care needed.
  • Role models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety.
  • Enforces and interprets policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
  • Ensures proper staffing for each unit, keeping staff ratio, appropriate staffing for patient care needs, covering call-offs and vacation time.
  • Ensures chart checks are completed, seclusion/restraint log is up to date and nursing assessments are completed, as well as MAR’s and report sheets are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Rounds are completed at the beginning of shift and perform random audits.
  • Assists nursing leaders to make sure all staff are oriented and competent to perform required duties. May include coaching staff.
  • Provides mentoring and training as needed.
  • Assists the nursing leadership team by ensuring facility compliance with professional, regulatory and governmental standards.
  • Ensures the effective delivery of competent, compassionate and safe care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes and outcomes on the patient care units.
  • Coordinates all care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensures consultations are ordered.
  • Documents medical, behavioral health information and nursing care.
  • Administers medications and maintains records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assists in developing a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs. Assists in updating and revising the plan of care as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Acts as leader on shift for all admissions and discharges, as well as informing physician of changes in the patient’s conditions. Adjusts staffing accordingly.
  • Utilizes administrator-on-call for situations that require additional attention.
  • Provides direct care as needed.
  • Performs other functions and tasks as assigned.
