About The Position

The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown offers 168 beds for nursing home care. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and memory care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The home staffs a full time Physician and Certified Nurse Practitioner. The home opened in 2003, and is located in the scenic countryside of Brown County, offering a tranquil setting where veterans can feel at home. Those who wish to visit with our residents can enjoy a small park on the grounds, which includes a pavilion, walking trail and playground. This position directs, supervises & evaluates long-term & acute care operations at The Southern Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. The ideal candidate is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with experience in nursing, social services, medical services, activities, dietary, pastoral care, medical records, compliance, life safety, admissions, quality assurance & performance improvement, therapy which includes skilled care, intermediate care & memory care.

Requirements

  • Valid nursing home administrator's license as issued by Ohio Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, Department of Health pursuant to Section 4751.02 of Revised Code.
  • Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with experience in nursing, social services, medical services, activities, dietary, pastoral care, medical records, compliance, life safety, admissions, quality assurance & performance improvement, therapy which includes skilled care, intermediate care & memory care.

Responsibilities

  • Develops departmental procedures & policies in accordance with governing statutes
  • Monitors business operations (e.g., purchasing & personnel requests; initiates contracts for physicians; directs recruiting, training & scheduling of medical & non-medical staff under his/her authority)
  • Interprets federal, state & local regulations to assure compliance with nursing home operations & to fulfill licensure standards
  • Monitors medical reporting, staffing & procedures in order to ensure compliance with regulations & quality of care
  • Supervises activity programming & evaluates & monitors all patient rehabilitation programs in consultation with physicians
  • Maintains appropriate census & addresses any issues with respect to admissions & denials of residents, including rights to appeal discharges; ensures appropriate infection control program
  • Establishes & maintains favorable rapport with residents, their families &/or guardians
  • Establishes & reviews at least annually, written policies regarding the applicability & implementation of residents’ rights under sections 3721.10 to 3721.17 of the Ohio Revised Code, the responsibilities of residents regarding their rights, and the home’s grievance procedure
  • Acts as lead in annual U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs survey and Ohio Department of Health annual survey & all other complaint &/or compliance activities related to same
  • Reviews & develops a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections
  • Maintains cooperative relations with representatives of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Aging, area hospitals, veteran service organizations & other nursing homes; plans, implements & evaluates life safety programs & nursing educational programs
  • Develops, implements & evaluates fire & disaster plans
  • Evaluates annual financial program & coordinates development of budget for departments under the authority of the Nursing Home Administrator
  • Plans & participates in the capital budget process to make improvements in the quality of buildings & surroundings of the nursing home.
  • Serves as representative on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Committee, Compliance Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; attends Resident Council meetings & Family Council meetings to present on current events at the Nursing Home
  • Engages the community & veteran groups regarding the Ohio Veterans Home
