About The Position

Sullivan University is seeking a full-time Nursing faculty member for its Lexington Location. Faculty members are the University's teaching staff, reporting to their respective Dean, with potential dotted line responsibility to a Department/Program Director or General Education Chair. Faculty members are student-centered, teaching mentors who assist students in progressing through their academic programs to completion. The role involves instruction and assessment of student learning, scholarship and professional development, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • MSN required.
  • A minimum of two years' experience as a registered nurse.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with active teaching methods and use of teaching technologies including AI.
  • Must possess excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as to move about the campus.
  • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face, via the telephone, and through electronic medium (e.g., email, recordings, virtual meetings, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student learning within face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid learning environments.
  • Delivers effective and career-relevant instruction.
  • Provides an environment conducive to learning.
  • Evaluates student learning for all assigned classes.
  • Responds to student inquiries and grades assignments in a timely manner.
  • Engages students using student engagement instructional techniques (e.g., collaborative learning, experiential learning, problem-based learning).
  • Delivers course curriculum using the University’s learning management system.
  • Participates in course and program level learning assessments, including defining student learning outcomes, administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting improvements.
  • Participates in the development and revision of course maps and course materials, including Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Schedules, supervises, debriefs, and evaluates students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings.
  • Participates in student retention efforts, reaching out to students with excessive absences, documenting activities, and ensuring students are aware of University services.
  • Communicates availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other personal contact.
  • Participates in the annual faculty performance review process.
  • Participates in the University’s Professional Development Program.
  • Remains current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements.
  • Receives training to stay current in technological and pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
  • Participates in scholarly activities (Graduate School faculty requirement only).
  • Reports all professional development activities in the professional development activity website.
  • Adheres to all policies related to instruction, teaching, and employment as specified by the Faculty/Staff Manual.
  • Accurately records and reports student attendance in accordance with University Attendance policy.
  • Submits grade books in the correct format and by the required due date.
  • Completes all required and mandated compliance training.
  • Submits annually an updated curricula vitae/resume to the respective Dean.
  • Participates in graduation ceremonies, as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
