About The Position

The Health Care Aide (HCA) role is a regulated member of an interprofessional health care team, providing ongoing client care. This position involves delivering prescribed medications accurately and maintaining professional and ethical standards in line with Carewest's philosophy and policies. The role is within the Complex Care program, which serves frail seniors requiring interdisciplinary team care to enhance their quality of life in safe, comfortable, and supportive environments. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required
  • Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients
  • Active and current registration with CLHA required
  • Successful applicants not currently working for Carewest will need to provide a suitable police records check and vulnerable sector screen
  • Successful applicants may need to provide immunization records for positions in certain environments

  • Related experience in a health care facility is an asset
  • Program specific training/experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing client care
  • Observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status
  • Ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure
  • Maintains professional and ethical standards at all times
  • Responsible for other related duties as required
